A project so big that my life will forever be that which comes after, and now, that what has come before. Do I define my art or does my art define me? Do I get to designate that what and who I love, or have the energetic, magnetic, attractive forces within this place of my birth and of my life, sculpted me to be the maker of this and the next Field Atlases to come? Am I alone in the endeavor or do I dare think I may be a momentary pulse in a greater becoming? (obi)

The Redwood Journal

This Winter we have above average rainfall totals in Northern California, but below average for the months of January and February. Things are cooking right along at Juniper Ridge, with the launch of Winter Redwood – I am running the @juniper_ridge twitter feed now – mostly wilderness conservation posts. Alli & I plan on heading up to Mount Diablo to hunt the first wildflowers this weekend – below are some shots from that sweet place and some pics from the past few weeks, including a lone tree I am particularly fond of on the Matt Davis Trail over on Mount Tam. My mornings are spent with coffee in the studio painting Athena. To see my paintings go to obikaufmann.com

Pilgrim Surf Shop, NYC

Pilgrim Surf Shop is a partner store to Juniper Ridge and we could not be more proud. By partner store, I mean a store that really has dug into our story and supports a range of products across our line. Whenever we are in town we make it a point to go to our favorite little clubhouse of Wythe Avenue, six pack of Peroni under arm, and hang with some of the coolest folks we have yet to find in the Big City. -Obi

Capsule New York, Men’s clothing

Capsule, New York. Men’s fashion. January 2013. Having shown Juniper Ridge at a year’s worth of Capsule Shows, I can honestly say this one was the best. The clientele and the other exhibitors are all becoming friends and each show becomes more and more enjoyable. -Obi

The Bags – Branded in Paper

I am a consumer, I admit it. I like to think of myself as a discerning consumer, but a consumer none the less. I spend a great deal of time deliberating how I spend my money, but once I’ve set my mind to it, give me all of it! Give me not only the excellent, well-made merchandise (what ever it may be) but give me the whole branded, marketed experience. I think it can be a very complex, artful conversation. That being said, I must confess, I still don’t know why I keep this collection of bags – I do think they say something interesting, when presented as a whole. -Obi

Treasures – The Everyday Precious

We just moved and that, in my mind, requires the taking of a great deal of emotional inventory. Below is a photo story of real stuff from real places that I hold onto as part of my real history. Simple souvenirs that resonate and project the idea of home enough to merit their material worth – enough so that I’ll continue to carry them around, for the time being. -Obi.
